Subsequent to a long career in business, Richard returned to an early passion for the creative arts. Having had little formal education in fine arts, he was determined to become self taught and to develop his own individual style. This allowed him to take an experimental approach without being biased by others. He has, however, attended Hudson River Valley Art Workshops and gained knowledge and advice from accredited and renowned pastelists, Susan Ogilvie,PSA and Christine Ivers,PSA. His favored media are pastel and graphite but he has also worked successfully with acrylics and watercolor. His variety of subject matter is a reflection of inspiration garnered through close observation of his surroundings as well as personal experiences. He currently summers in his home town of East Aurora, NY and spends winters at his condo in Pawleys Island, SC. This arrangement provides a wealth of inspiration for his art. His award winning work can be found in private collections locally and abroad.
Richard is proud to be a Juried Artist with the Arts and Craftsman Guild on The Roycroft Campus in East Aurora, NY
